If you’re readying yourself for a trip to the majestic gambling paradise of Macau, then you’re going to want to brush up your knowledge a touch. Online Casinos has the hottest gambling tips to help you get started.

In my experience, gaming at a real-life casino should follow on from lots of practice at online casinos. The logic is simple: only online casinos allow for both real-money playing and free-gaming. It’ s the latter that provides the necessary experience to make those big-money plays.

Macau is Asia’s answer to Las Vegas. And it’s a powerhouse of note for gaming aficionados. But before you get started, take a peek at OCR’s <a href"http://www.onlinecasinoreports.com/guides/poker/how-to-play-online-poker.php">guide on playing poker, baccarat, blackjack, backgammon and more. There’s plenty helpful advice to get you on the right gaming track.

And while you’re at it, why not practice for free at JackpotCity Casino or Europa – they’re the world’s finest online casinos

There’s great news for poker players from the Philippines. The Asian Poker Tour (APT) is returning to the island nation with the 2010 APT Philippines event. I know for a fact that when this 7-day tournament kicks of on August 23rd, players will be doing back-flips at Resorts World in Manilla. For those of you skilled enough to participate there’s a $2,5k buy in + $200 for the Main Event.

What more can you expect?

The short answer – lots more. There are 8 premier side events at this year’s Asian Poker Tour. These include a Greed Tournament, a Pot-Limit Omaha event and a High Roller’s Tournament. If you recall the 2009 APT was won by Neil Arce a homegrown Filipino. He cashed up to the tune of $185k. Incidentally, this was the first time a local player won a world-class event in the Philippines. I’m backing a new winner this year – simply because the amount of raw poker talent out there is immense.

If you’re interested in learning more you can check out places like the iPoker Network and even PartyPoker for qualifying games into this prestigious APT event. The 2010 Main Event will be held at Resorts World Manila – across from Terminal 3 of the NAIA (International Airport). See you there!

The Asian Poker Tour, otherwise known as the APT, has just released the dates of its first major poker events for this year. The APT Philippines 2010 is set to take place at the Resort Worlds complex in Manila between 23 and 29 August. The APT Macau is usually held during August so this represents a shift from the regular pattern. Nevertheless, APT Philippines is still expected to draw a huge field of talented poker players. Last year there were 262 players in total with Neil Arce coming out on top to win the 2009 title plus $185,000 in prize money. There will be buy ins at US $2,500 + $200 and many of the leading online poker rooms will be running satellite tournaments to qualify for the event, such as Poker Stars.
What is the APT? Only Asia’s biggest and original poker tour that is continuing to grow in popularity. Since 2008, there have been four events: two in the Philippines and another two in Macau. The most successful event would have been the one held in Macau last year.

The Macau Spring Festival of Poker will be taking place at Casino Grand Lisboa between 3 May and 23 May 2010. The Main Event is anticipated to draw elite crowd of poker players from around the global.
The season began just a couple of weeks ago in the Philippines with the ‘APPT Manilla: PAGCOR Chairman’s Cup’ smashing its $1 million USD guarantee. More than 430 players competed for the prize pool and the event turned out to be the largest poker tournament ever in the Philippines. Eventually, however, the top prize went to an American poker player from Las Vegas, Binh Nguyen (pictured here). He won what was the biggest prize in Philippine poker history … a cool $260,700. Nguyen was apparently impressed with the event and how smoothly it ran. Our top five placed local talent in the event was Kirby Te (8th place), Ramil Gentugaya (12th place), Marc Rivera (16th place), Eric Sia (20th place) and Jose Garcia (25th place).

News just in for all Facebook and poker fans… You can now enjoy your favourite game on your favourite social networking site, Facebook. British-based Playfish Limited has just teamed up with FB to launch the Poker Rivals beta test application. We’ve been able to play Texas Hold’em Poker on FB for some time now thanks to Zynga but Poker Rivals will supposedly include new features such as the option to purchase items using your poker winnings. Plus, you’ll be able to modify your avatars and animate your characters. The games is still in beta and is not actually being actively promoted at this stage so I’m sure more improvements will follow soon.

If you haven’t heard of Playfish before, then get ready to hear a whole lot more about them in the future. They are widely regarded as being one of the world’s largest and fastest growing social games companies and were recently purchased by Electronic Arts for a staggering $400 million!

And not just any poker player …. At just 25 years of age, Neil Arce deservedly has the reputation as one of the best poker players in the Philippines. He is probably the most successful Filipino poker player in terms of tournament winnings and finishes. Acre was first noticed in 2007 after becoming the first ever Filipino player to finish in the money in the WSOP main event. Since then his impressive career includes 2008 Filipino Poker Tour Champion and 2009 APT Manila Main Event Champion (won a whopping $185,000). He’s known affectionately in poker circles as ‘The Dirty Ice Cream’ – although I can’t quite work out why? Can anyone enlighten me?

The country has actually been billed as one of Asia’s leading poker markets. The first event of the 2009 Asia Poker Tour was held in the Philippines in January and more than 260 players representing over 30 countries attended. Plus, a number of local players have started to make their presence felt on the international poker circuit such as Alfredo ‘Toto’ Leonidas, Derick Hernandez and Neil Acre.
